The Missing Link is Upon Us
2007-07-08Perhaps you caught the last version of the site. Probably not. Either way, things have changed.
For one thing, the site map has changed and much of the copy has been replaced. As of this writing there is still much of the copy that is blank on this version, but there was in the previous as well. Some has been added, much has been clarified, and I re-wrote it to better explain how to use the thing (I hope).
More importantly static itself has undergone quite a number of changes. Most importantly (read: most easily explained) is the shape of a project. Layouts became slightly more transparent and better equipped and the base/ directory really came of age, making a project a well encapsulated thing for the first time, making it a little easier to explain and understand.
Additionally, collections have gained some power, including the ability to be made into rss feeds (as this news feed is). Rbml acquired rss ability to accomodate this, which is super sweet. Finally, setting it all live through rsync is as easy as it gets.
Alas, this is something of a hobbling member of the static ancestral chain. It contains almost all of the preliminary desired functionality, but the code sort of stops short of being extensible.
And so, while I am pleased to announce (though not quite release.. its coming..) The Missing Link, I as well as you await The Great Refactor with great anticipation. I have a very good idea which way I am going to go with it, and am happy to say that by the end of the next age, static will gain the ever-important attribute of flexibility.
